I had been wondering how Heart would react to being used by the McCain campaign.

Refaving from Shiwani. Just when you thought Heart couldn't get any more bad ass.

Quoted: "Sarah Palin's views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song 'Barracuda' no longer be used to promote her image. The song 'Barracuda' was written in the late 70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women. (The 'barracuda' represented the business.) While Heart did not and would not authorize the use of their song at the RNC, there's irony in Republican strategists' choice to make use of it there."

Last night, I was wondering how Heart felt about their song "Barracuda" being co-opted to promote Sarah Palin at the GOP convention. Turns out they're none too pleased - Sony even issued a cease-and-desist. Go Heart! Thanks for finding this, Pammy.

Quoted: UPDATE Friday morning: here's a statement by Ann and Nancy Wilson from EW.com: "Sarah Palin's views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song 'Barracuda' no longer be used to promote her image."

I read something a couple of weeks ago about two or three other incidents in this campaign where they used unapproved songs (one was Jackson Browne but I can't recall the others). How do you keep making the same mistake over and over? And don't the Republicans do this every election year?

Yeah, I remember this was an issue with Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA." I think Reagan used it and Bruce was like, "um, listen to the lyrics - it's anti-Vietnam War."
